WCPCS will be a K-8 school (currently K-5). Beginning enrollment started at 39 students, with a desirable maximum at about 225. The school draws from West Concord and the surrounding areas, which offer little or no alternative public educational opportunities. Its board members aspire to provide children in West Concord and the surrounding rural area with a quality education.
Students develop a strong sense of responsibility for themselves and their community, together with the ability to self-direct. These academic and personal skills will enable them to succeed in school and community, in present and future. Highly qualified and motivated teachers provide learning leadership using innovative methods and a content-based curriculum. E.D. Hirsch’s Core Knowledge Sequence provides the basic curriculum for the school. While that curriculum provides highly structured sequential core content, it allows for the use of various and innovative teaching methodologies. This in turn enables teachers to adapt instruction to motivate and meet the needs of the student population. This curriculum is supplemented with FOSS Science and Saxon Math.
Parental support and involvement in the school and classrooms is vital to the achievement of the vision and mission of the school. Multiple lines of communication have been established and extensively employed. Thus, using a back to the basics approach, WCPCS brings a high quality education back to the forefront in our community.
